After an incredible journey together, we regret to tell you that we have taken the difficult decision to wind down the operations of Kubaru.
When we first started developing Kubaru there were no other peer-to-peer microfinance platforms in existence in the UK. Since then the market has grown beyond what we could’ve imagined, into a fully developed sector with a number of large and well-resourced organisations. The Kubaru board recognises this and as a result we have taken the collective decision to step back and wind down our lending operations. As a part of this process we will be honouring all of our outstanding commitments to both our lenders and field partners.
I am extremely proud of what we – a small team of just five volunteers – have achieved during the past few years. We have distributed over 120 microloans to entrepreneurs in Burkina Faso and the Philippines and brought the cause of post-disaster microfinance to a global audience. I hope that the groundwork that we have established will enable others to continue their support for the development of this sector in the years ahead.
The Kubaru team will continue, in an individual capacity, to support the financial inclusion agenda both at home and overseas. We would welcome any further thoughts or comments you have about how best we can remain engaged – firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, I would like to express my thanks to our lenders, volunteers and trustees for their dedicated support during the past few years; without your input Kubaru simply wouldn’t have existed.
